Zoning in the Kings Park Industrial Area

In 1967 My Grandfather Henry L Carlson Filed for a change of zone to facilitate the moving of our Down Town Kings Park Manufacturing Plant to the Old Northport Road Industrial Area!

This was at the request of the Town Board. The zone change was granted and we moved in the early 1970’s and the Down Town factory was demolished and the area was turned into the LIRR commuter parking Lot .

In 1967 the four primary reasons Henry cited for the move were:

  • Adequate room for future expansion
  • Railroad Siding Availability
  • Suitable roads for ingress and egress
  • Aggregates for the concrete business

Many that oppose the the TRT project do not understand the history of the Kings Park Industrial Area. It was a place where the Town wanted us to move. It was perfectly protected by the LIRR, Sunken Meadow Parkway and the Town Landfills! Over the decades the community grew around us.

For over a hundred years, Carlson has serviced the local community. The area known as the Kings Park Industrial park was intended for industrial development. It is our hope with the TRT project, we will continue to serve the communities vital needs for the next 100 years! I believe can be done in a safe, effective and environmentally responsible way with minimal impact to the surrounding communities.
